One Alhaji Musa Araokanmi, who claimed to be a member of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has been arrested by the police for allegedly collecting the sum of N1,400,000 from one Halimot Olorunlomeru.
He was said to have collected the money under the pretence that he would assist the woman to buy cars and motorcycles from the police auction sales.
Araokanmi’s arrest, DAILY POST reports, followed a complaint lodged at Ago Iwoye divisional headquarters by the victim.
The victim had reported that the suspect introduced himself to her as a member of PPCRC in charge of police auction sales.
The Ogun Police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, quoted the victim as alleging that the suspect advised her to deposit N1.4 million with him to get a very good car and motorcycles from police auction sales.
“Since he collected the said amount in June 2020, he has been on the run and efforts to locate him proved abortive, until he was recently sighted in Ago Iwoye,” Oyeyemi said in a statement on Thursday.
Acting on the report, the DPO of Ago Iwoye Division, SP Noah Adekanye, deployed detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested.
Preliminary investigation, Oyeyemi said, revealed that the suspect was never a member of the PCRC in Ogun as he claimed.
“He has confessed to the commission of the crime,” Oyeyemi said.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, Lanre Bankole, has directed an in-depth investigation into the suspect’s past activities, with the view to arraigning him in court as soon as possible.
