Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba activist, has described how his Ibadan home was invaded by individuals claiming to be military officers in the early hours of July 1.
Igboho remarked in an interview with BBC Yoruba that:
“I just heard a lot of bullets and gunshots in my property and in front of my house. They were yelling, “Sunday Igboho, come out!” They were also yelling, “We are DSS, we are military, come out!”
So I peered through the glass and saw them dressed in DSS uniforms and troops, which shocked me since I didn’t murder anybody or fight with anyone; all I’m doing is fighting for myself and my people.
All of the rallies I’m doing are nonviolent, therefore I’m fighting for my family as well, because the bandits murdered, raped, abducted, and demanded ransom from my family.
Because the government failed to do what was right, I came out to support my family in their battle for our rights. So I was taken aback.
Yes, I was at home when they arrived. They were responsible for the deaths of two men. The amount of shooting was excessive. They destroyed all of my belongings, as well as all of my vehicles.” he stated
