The Kwara State Government has again warned that offenders of environmental law will face sanctions.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mrs Remilekun Banigbe, handed down the warning on Saturday in a chat with newsmen during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the state.

She admonished the people of the state, especially market women and men, to always partake in the state’s monthly sanitation exercise in order to promote hygienic environment and prevent epidemic in the state.

She warned that henceforth, anyone who violates the environmental law, such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse, and other offenders will be sanctioned accordingly.

According to her, “The monthly sanitation is compulsory for all residents of Kwara because it was purposely designed for residents to clean their environment in order to promote hygienic environment and prevent epidemic in our society.”

The Commissioner, therefore, implored members of the public to always abide by the rules and regulations and participate in the sanitation exercise by cleaning their residential environments and businesses.

She further stated that the ministry will no longer take it easy with anyone that fails to observe the monthly sanitation exercise especially in various markets within the state capital.

Mrs. Banigbe, identified deforestation and indiscriminate dumping of garbage as the major challenges facing the ministry.

In his remark, the Vice Chairman of the Taskforce Committee, Col. Kayode Umar, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for sustaining a clean and hygienic environment in the state.

He called for total compliance by the people of the state in order to compliment the government’s effort in the provision of a clean and healthy environment for the inhabitants of the state.

Some of the areas visited by the Commissioner and her team included Ojo-Oba, Gambari, Ipata Market, Sabo-line, Moraba among others.
