On Saturday, July 24, 2021, the Lagos State Government has declared that movement throughout the state would be restricted between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The order was issued to allow the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to hold smooth elections for Chairmen and Councillors in all 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos.
Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner of Information, issued a press statement on Thursday, July 22.
“The limitation is in place to allow the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to conduct smooth elections for Chairmen and Councillors in all 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.
“The limitation would make it easier for voters, election materials, and LASIEC personnel to move about, ensuring election sanctity, effective monitoring, and improved security.
“All eligible voters are encouraged to participate in the elections, which will need all citizens’ cooperation.”
