The 62nd Independence Day celebration in Asaba, Delta State, was heavily disrupted, on Saturday, as a result of the one-million-man march embarked on by the teeming supporters of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The intimidating crowd that marched from the inter-bus roundabout along Nnebisi road, Asaba, kept soaring as they locked down the state capital for over six hours.

DAILY POST observed the enthusiasm with which the youths in the city emerged from different communities of Delta North Local Government Area as early as around 7 am to embark on the one-million-man march in Asaba.

Some of Obi’s supporters, popularly known as ‘Obedients’ spoke to DAILY POST during the march.

One of them, who identified himself as James Iwenna, said what the group witnessed was more than a one-million-march.

He said, “We are having one-million-march in solidarity with Peter Obi but what we saw today is no longer one million. You see that the crowd here is about two million.

“Before now, we had to choose between two evils. But as it is now, we have Peter Obi over the two evils. In 2023, we the youths will massively vote for Obi.”

He was hopeful that the one-million-march would be translated into PVCs in Asaba, urging supporters to ensure they get their PVCs so their effort will not be in vain.

Meanwhile, scanty attendees witnessed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s Independence Day celebration speech at Asaba.

Okowa, who his deputy, Kingsley Otuaro, represented, stated that October 1960, will ever remain a memorable day in the lives of Nigerians, while urging the people not to forget the sacrifices of our leaders who fought for freedom.
