The Gaa Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria, GAFDAN, has asked the Kwara State government and security agencies to call the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, to order over alleged provocative statements that could lead to unrest in the state.

DAILY POST recalls that the Coordinator of OPC, in Kwara, Ganiyu Oladipupo, on Friday accused Fulani herdsmen of being masterminds behind an attack on one of the OPC members, Raimi Saadu, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

He was allegedly attacked on his farm very close to a Maternity Hospital in Koko town in the local government by suspected herdsmen.

Ganiyu also called on the state Commissioner of Police to investigate the matter as OPC will not allow bandits take over the state.

Reacting, the state Chairman of GAFDAN, Ali Mohammed Jounwiro, in Ilorin on Sunday, condemned what he described as provocative statements from the OPC.

He appealed to Fulani/Yoruba families to live peacefully and refrain from taking the laws into their hands.

Ali said the Fulani and Yorubas, among other tribes in the state, have been living in peace and transacting businesses from time immemorial without any problem.

He said Fulanis and Yorubas have no issues in Kara markets across the state as they benefit from each other and pay taxes to the state in the cattle markets.

He said the OPC has nothing to offer the state government in terms of businesses that could yield revenue for the government except to create crises which are counterproductive.

He said security agencies were monitoring their affairs as a law-abiding group of people and would leave no stone unturned to ensure peaceful co-existence wherever they are.
