President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his administration’s agricultural strategy is paying dividends.
The President said this when meeting Hailemariam Dessalegn, Ethiopia’s former prime minister, on Friday, July 2. He also stated that they had returned to agriculture since crude oil is no longer viable.
Nigerians now consume what they produce, according to Buhari, since his government has banned the importation of numerous food items.
He said,
“We needed to return to the land since petroleum could no longer support the nation, especially with the price fluctuations.
“Today, we consume what we produce, and we’ve stopped importing a lot of food. There is no more foreign currency to be squandered.
“Agriculture has also helped us in creating jobs. We’ve embraced technology to the point that some individuals are quitting their workplaces to return to the land. And they are not remorseful. That is the response we have received.”
