The Adamawa State Executive Council on Wednesday approved over N830 million for construction of water drainage systems in some flood-prone communities.
The communities to benefit are in Gulak, Shuwa and Uba towns in Madagali and Hong local government areas.
The breakdown shows that the work for Gulak has a distance of 1.3km by 1.5 metre at N366 million, that of Shuwa; 1.3km by 2 by 1 metres at N216 million, while the project for Uba covers 0.07km by 2.1 by 1.5 metres at N248 million.
DAILY POST reports that the move by the government may have been influenced largely by public outcries.
Flood situation has been particularly bad since the onset of this wet season, with flood ravaging communities across the state, including Madagali, the home LGA of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, prompting many residents to lampoon the governor for not doing something to help his own people.
The State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Dr. Umar Garba Pella who addressed newsmen after the Council meeting of Wednesday, said the projects awarded to Messrs Triacta Nigeria Limited, will mitigate effects of perennial flooding as it was taking over communities in the state.
Garba added that the Executive Council Members had also approved resuscitation of dilapidated state-owned fertilizer blending plant at Damare, Girei local government area, at over N264 million.
The commissioner said the projects are awarded to two companies to work on renovation and upgrade of structures as well as fabrication and installation of machines at over N86 million and N177 million respectively.
