The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ekiti State Council has called on the state government to reward a nurse, Mrs Blessing Oladipo who delivered a patient of her baby boy by the roadside, in Ijesa Isu Ekiti, Ikole Local Government.

The leadership of the Association made the request during a visit to the baby, the mother and the nurse at the General Hospital Ijesa Isu.

Nurse Blessing Oladipo who has now become a celebrity after the news went viral was said to have rushed from the hospital to assist the patient at the roadside where she was groaning due to contraction.

Speaking with journalists at the hospital, the Acting Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ekiti State Council, Mrs. Omotayo Patricia Akinola affirmed that such a gesture would propel the nurse to do better and also encourage diligence and hard work in health practitioners.

She commended the nurse for making the association proud and urged her to do more.

Mrs Patricia Akinola used the avenue to call on the Ekiti State government to also address the various challenges affecting smooth operations in the hospital among which are, poor facilities, lack of access to roads and security.

In his contribution, the State Secretary of NANNM Ekiti State, Tornubari Samuel said the heroic action of Nurse Oladipo Blessing was a reflection of how nurses and midwives in Nigeria go the extra mile to meet the health needs of Nigerians despite the poor working conditions and poor remuneration
