On Wednesday evening, soldiers successfully thwarted a Boko Haram assault in Geidam, a town in Yobe State.
After being overwhelmed by soldiers responding to a tip, the terrorists are said to have fled.
Governor Mai Mala Buni has now praised the security personnel for their courage in the face of the assault. Mamman Mohammed, his media assistant, issued the following statement:
“It’s heartwarming that, despite the enemy’s retreat, the troops gallantly followed them and successfully cleared an ambush that had been set up in their path.
“The government and people of Yobe state thank your courage in securing the general region and allowing the people of Geidam to continue peacefully celebrating Sallah.”
Buni also urged residents of the state to provide security personnel with valuable and timely information in order to improve proactive efforts against such assaults.
