Igboho was detained at an airport in Cotonou three weeks after the Department of State Services proclaimed him sought for allegedly stockpiling weapons. He will be deported to Nigeria on Tuesday, July 20. It was also discovered that his final destination was Germany.
According to a person familiar with the situation, Sahara Reporters was told:
“In Cotonou, Sunday Igboho was detained. He was apprehended little over an hour ago.
“This evening, he was scheduled to fly to Germany through Cotonou. He intended to go from Africa through Cotonou. In Cotonou, he was apprehended by security forces.
“They want to repatriate him to Nigeria.”
On July 1, 2021, the DSS stormed Igboho’s Ibadan home in the Soka neighbourhood, arresting around 12 of his aides and killing two of them in a gunfight.
Following this, the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service were put on high alert to prevent Igboho from fleeing the country.
